What is MLS?

Major League Soccer is the top division of men's professional soccer in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1996 as part of the USA's 1994 World Cup bid commitments, it has grown into a 30-club league with purpose-built stadiums, designated-player stars and its own youth-to-first-team pipeline.

MLS rankings — common questions

Is this the official MLS table?
No. MLS publishes its own standings. Ranked XI is an independent national ranking that places all 30 MLS clubs on one scale alongside every other league in the US pyramid, so cross-league comparison is possible.
Why does this not match the MLS standings?
Standings measure points won inside one league or conference this season. A Ranked XI rating measures strength on a single national scale, calibrated across tiers on U.S. Open Cup results, so a club can sit high here and mid-table in its own conference.
How many MLS clubs are rated?
30 of them, led by Nashville SC at 1967. Clubs whose divisions publish no usable table are listed without a rating rather than being given an invented one.

Every Ranked XI rating labels its basis. Cross-league placement is calibrated on ~600 U.S. Open Cup results — how the ratings work. Ranked XI is an independent project: not an official USSF or league ranking, not affiliated with any league or club, and not betting advice. Marks belong to their owners.
